Mix together the flour with baking soda. Layer ingredients in order given in a one quart wide mouth canning jar. You will need to wipe the inside of the jar after adding cocoa powder layer. Press firmly into place before adding next ingredient.

Empty jar of cookie mix into large mixing bowl. Blend mix thoroughly. Add one stick of softened butter, one slightly beaten egg and one teaspoon vanilla. Mix until completely blended. You might need to finish mixing with your hands. Shape walnut sized balls and place two inches apart on greased baking sheets.
Bake at 375 degrees F for 11 to 13 minutes on baking sheet, then remove to racks for cooling.
