Preheat over to 450 degrees F. Into a large bowl, measure self-rising cake flour. With pastry blender or two knives used scissor-fashion, cut in shortening until evenly combined.
Stir milk into flour mixture just until ingredients are blended. Scoop dough by scant 1/4 cups onto ungreased large cookie sheet. With floured hands, lightly pat scoops of dough to smooth slightly if you prefer smooth biscuits.
Bake biscuits about 15 minutes, or until lightly browned. Serve biscuits warm or cook on a wire rack and reheat is desired.
Note: if not able to use self-rising cake flour, substitute 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1-1/2 cake flour (not self-rising), 1tablespoon baking powder, and one teaspoon salt. Place in large bowl, then cut in shortening and continue as listed above.
