back to basics

I want to spend a little time focusing on some basic skills around the home and around our personal and professional lives. Varying degrees of renaissance continue en vogue and checking in with your skill set frequently verifies first, that we have a skill set, then ensures that we retain that skill set as long as possible.

Look for home and life basics to repeat with a relative frequency until I either tire of it or some new thing captures my interest and gets added to the skill set.

I figure we want to focus particularly on things like basic recipes. I have been surprised to see how many people have gotten into a pattern of quick cooking: shortcuts from the grocery store, fast food and the like, and have either fallen out of the pattern of cooking for themselves or never really understood how to cook for themselves. So I want to go back to some of the easier, what some would consider more basic recipes, but never “plain” recipes. Recipes that you can build on. Solid foundations.

And solid foundations elsewhere also. I want to go back over basic skills like sewing. Laundry. Keeping a home. Cleaning skills. Simple budgeting tricks. How to comparison shop. Just really how to survive in the world with some base skills that people used to have, but either forgot or did not get the chance this time around to get to learn. So as not to make it boring, I doubt I am going to follow a logical progression, but there you have it. At least I want to give it a shot.
