Making pillows from handkerchiefs
Oh such a simple idea and great for all those fantastic hankies you might have hanging around from Grandma (if you do not use them yourself).
The idea is you take yourself a simple monochrome accent pillow, and sew on those amazing detailed hankies that were so prevalent at one time. The illustration work on those were fantastic!
What can make this idea perfect for this season is that the most colorful handkerchiefs I have seen are the retro hankies for the Christmas season. What a lovely gift idea these would make.
A nice elegant solid green or red throw pillow would look wonderful as the backdrop to the adorable winter storyboards. And handkerchiefs like these are easy to find, as they have fallen out of popularity. A quick scout through a dimestore can usually find a handful for pennies.
The same idea could be utilized using children’s themed hankies for their bedrooms. Children hankies are usually highly illustrated with characters well known from story books as familiar to children as their own families. What a great way to decorate a room.
