Making handmade ornaments
Making Christmas tree ornaments can be very simple and very inexpensive. In fact, you do not even need a sewing machine to make these little ornaments.
If you do not feel comfortable free form cutting your own hearts (even with all that practice making Valentines over the years in grade school), then you can print out a clip art heart and use that as your template.
These ornaments can be made for absolutely next to nothing if you save your fabric scraps from other projects. It would make for an extremely eclectic Christmas tree, but for the most part, that is the ongoing theme of my favorite tree anyway, so it really works for me.
I just love the button embellishment myself, but if you do not feel up to doing that, you could always leave it out.
This is a great project for a beginning sewing student to work with. These are easy enough to work on and if they go to heck in a handbasket, well - no harm, no foul.
