Christmas stocking with lights

christmas stocking with lights

Yet again, another entry into my Christmas season obsession … the Christmas stocking. My stocking selection is extraordinary, and growing each year as I kick my sewing machine into gear. It is rather silly, really, but new patterns come out, and new inspirations come up and …. well, things just get out of hand. I have a tree that is nothing but little stockings at this point, and I admit, I love it.

But on to this adorable entry into this season of stockings.

After cutting each half of my stocking out (and before sewing them together), I would sew just one half, working on the lights themselves.

This particular example has been sewn with matching thread so that each light has matching stitching (thus the gold fabric has the gold thread hidden right into it), but not everyone has the time or patience (or equipment) for such details. If you do, excellent! If not, no worries. It is the individual charm of each stocking that sets it apart from all the mass produced pieces you find everywhere.

I love the cord that winds its way through this stocking, wedding all the various lights together all through this stocking.

Only after sewing on all the crazy details I felt up to adding would I then sew the two halves of the stocking together and add the cuff on top.

I love the bright colors of this particular stocking. And once I had a Christmas light shape (which I most likely would take to my computer to find. Just look for a good piece of clip art you like and print it out to use as your template), I would just print and cut that out repeatedly for my light bulb pattern here.
