Links I love: burdastyle, open source sewing.

burdastyle

I am in love with this site: burdastyle (open source sewing). I just recently found it, but as a computer geek that favors open source software, I fell in love the minute I saw the name. Then once I understood the concept? I was theirs forever more.

Open source sewing simply means that you and a bazillion of your closest web compatriots are doing your sewing thang, then posting the results, patterns, instructions, photos, how-tos, helpful hints and all those other things you wished desperately you could find at 3:30 in the morning when you are frantically trying to put in that last blasted seam.

They are the home-ec teachers and the sewing instructions you never got a chance to deal with (or understand). It is fantastic!

Running out of clothes to wear but have enough fabric around to make something new? Not a problem. Hop online and surf around and you will find hundreds of examples… with instructions and patterns, no less. Enough to satisfy that 2:00 am “I have nothing to wear to work tomorrow, I think I’ll go down and sew something new” (because everyone gets that urge, right?).

This site gets top kudos in my opinion. One of my goals from 43things is to sew something every week, so I am going to be cruising burdastyle regularly to find my inspiration.
