It is getting time for Christmas cookies.
I know you have been thinking about them because more and more of you are searching for them through the blog.
Good idea. Now is a perfectly decent time to be making some of these recipes ahead of time, wrapping the dough up well, and freezing them to pull out and bake as Christmas gets closer to us. I cannot tell you the number of years I have given myself extra free time by having that dough already in the freezer.
So, I’ll start posting my Christmas cookie recipes. I know that on the website part of Kattitudes, there is a pretty decent list already. Certainly enough to get your engines started. I have my favorites (like the molasses cookies posted earlier today), and there are those cookies that never seem to work out for me, no matter how many times I bake them.
One thing is for certain, Christmas cookie batches are times for something special and different. So this is not the time of year to whip out the omnipresent chocolate chip cookies. Those are everyday cookies. Christmas cookies are something special and something different.
Maybe, with luck, I can get posted the basic instructions on how to host a successful cookie exchange. Those always bring a lot of enjoyment, but they are a bit of work. But then again, most everything that is enjoyable is a bit of work, so it is worth it in the end.
Main point of the story here is that it is getting late enough in the year that if we are going to make kitchen gifts, we need to be getting our pantry stores up to date, purchasing ingredients (flour and butter when it is on sale now) and containers and the like.
I do have a number of no bake recipes this year that I am interested in inclusion with regard to my Christmas cookie package, so I will definitely include them here on the blog also. As I think about it, I have a huge storehouse of clipped recipes dating from who knows when just waiting to be shared. That way everyone can have a chance to bake (and receive) a Christmas cookie care package.
I’ve posted this list before, but I am bringing it up to the front again so that we have a chance to review the recipes I do have and so I can also start determining which recipes I have collected that need to be added to this master list.
Anyway, start checking out the recipes and pick a couple that you want to try this year. It is time to start making those plans.
