Harlequin Halloween pumpkin.

When I saw this photo, my heart did a little pitter-pat because I love it so. It is freaking adorable!

And since most my house has ended up in the dominant themes of black and white (much easier to buy and match things now - in particular my kitchen), this number fits right into my lifestyle.

This is one of those artificial pumpkins. Taped and painted into a harlequin pattern (paint with white first, then black).

Then the topper - faux jewels are affixed at every single junction where the black and white meet, making this a perfect sparkler to pick up all the candlelight you use during Halloween time.

Oh, so in love still with the harlequin pattern, even though I know it is supposed to be over. It never will be for me. Between that and houndstooth, I am stuck in black and white purgatory (and I like it here. Leave me alone). But as my saving grace, I try to splash with the brightest colors I can find, as often as I can find.

Anyway, main point of this story is that this is a fantastic Halloween pumpkin if you are feeling like deviating from the norm. And with a snazzy deviation like this, you would be well rewarded for such a variation.

You know, as I think about it, I have a friend that is just a crackerjack at carving pumpkins. She does a bang-up job. Me, I get impatient. That’s why I love the new fad of drilling your design with power tools - vroom vroom, less time to waste. But back to her - she does a fantastic and time consuming job of carving intricate details on pumpkins that I just don’t have the patience to sit and fiddly-fuss with anymore. So if you are a pumpkin carver and/or decorator, speaking as one of the impatient people in the world - we would love to receive a finished carved pumpkin as a gift.

Oh, last year my little sister bought a handful of the faux pumpkins and carved these wild two sided designs into them. The regular face of the jack-o’lantern faced toward us, but a hidden word or ghost or bat was carved into the back side of the pumpkin. When the candle was lit, it would cast its reflection against the wall and looks incredible.

So here are two fantastic carvers and I am trying to tell them and you - people like me that have lost their patience mojo would love love to receive a finished pumpkin as a gift. Particularly a permanent pumpkin so we can display it year after year. If your talents extend down this road, consider making a few extra as gifts for those impatient friends amongst your group. They would appreciate you and sing your praises for as long as that magic candle is lit! Trust me on this.
