Ribbon embellished Christmas tree skirt.
This skirt matches the ribbon embellished Christmas stocking in my last post. And if you thought $100 was a silly price for a Christmas stocking, you don’t even want to know what kind of joke price they thought to pull on an unsuspecting public for this tree skirt.
No. This is part of why we make our own. Not just the pleasure we can receive from seeing something take shape in our own two hands, but an outright rejection of the crass materialism that is infecting so much of our cultural institutions these days.
Back to the Christmas tree skirt, however; the skirt is much like the stocking. Just a plain round cut, then embellished with ribbons sewing with a straight stitch radiating out from the center. That’s it.
I personally wouldn’t even fuss about getting a perfectly aligned circle to be honest! I have found over time that I prefer the scrunched up, bunched up look of a mushed pile of fabric around the base of my tree.
Oh, I have a secret trick that I have been keeping to make tree skirts super easy. This is just disgustingly easy. Get yourself a very old tablecloth. Just cut a hole in the center and finish the hole (so the tree has a place to go obviously). And make sure that you finish the edges of the seam on the cut from the edge of the tablecloth to the center of the tablecloth. There ya go. The tree skirt work is done for you.
Now all you have to do is dig out all your massive stock of ribbons (admit it. I have them. I know you have them. Time to start using them. And besides, if we use them, we can buy more) and sewing them in place to make this perfectly adorable tree skirt.
I love this look! And since I have gotten to the point where I actually put up multiple trees each year, I am thinking I might just make this skirt for one of the trees this year. If you take some time soon, you could make the matching stocking and skirt combination for someone as a gift this year. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? Well, let’s get sewing.
