Wondering aloud. All about spam. 40k worth of spam.
I’m thinking about closing comments for a few months. But I don’t want to because I get into these fantastic private conversations with people that don’t necessarily want to be posted online (for some reason, I attract so many shy people, which is fine with me, because I was pretty shy for a long time growing up. I will get a posted comment asking if she can email me instead and it just goes from there. I finally got smart enough to add an email link to the individual posts which I recently took back out to stop the spam bot problems which started up again).
Anyway, main point of the story is that I swear by all that’s holy, my Kattitudes blog has ended up on the top 40 spammers bots. Fortunately, I have just a kickass spam catching software, and in a year’s time (or less?) it has caught just shy of forty thousand (40,000!!) spam comments.
So for any bloggers that are bothered with spam and need a powerhouse software on your side, post a comment or email me and I will point you in the right direction. This software ROCKS. I never have to fuss anymore. And the onesie twosie comments that get through are still segregated and I can review them and get rid of them with a single click. LOVE it.
You have to admit, that is one hell of a lot of spam. As I focus more on this blog and getting a bit more serious about my work with it (kattitudes has always been part of my craft hobby things, if that makes sense - as much a craft as the embroidery and such. I code like I sew. Quick and dirty!) Anyway, while the software is doing a fantastic job now, I know that the time is going to come quickly when so many spam hits are really going to just tick me right off.
First off, it obviously throws my hit count significantly off. Yes, my hits are very healthy and have always been, and for that, I am very thankful. But knowing that in a year, I’m getting 40 thousand spam comments, how many of the myriads of hits are spam related?
Urgh. So at this point, I think it’s time to stop playing and start reading up and treating all this blogging with a bit more respect. Sure, it’s still my favorite hobby, but I think that it has gone beyond hobby at this point. It is probably time to graduate to occupation or something respectable like that, so that I can upgrade my attention to things like the amount of spam I’m pulling in on a regular basis.
Forty thousand comments. I tell you what.
You have any thoughts? That aren’t spam? (I couldn’t resist).
