Easy gathered lampshade.

A very easy way to add warmth to your home is by the simple addition of lighting. You can create a lamp from so many found items these days that it makes sense to be able to make a shade that agrees with you. Lamp shades that we have seen never seems to fit the bill for us, always a little more plastic or a little more expensive than needed.

But give us that happy clean muslin that we so love and a sewing machine to gather and we get the clean cotton warmth that we so crave. Sure, we might not keep it forever, but it fills the need while we look for the perfect shade. And when we say fill the need… we admit to the fact that it took us a year (yes, a calendar year) to find the right sofa. We ended up buying the first one we picked (a lovely saddle colored leather one from a fantastic maker in London. Oh what we wouldn’t give to get back to them for some more furniture!).

Let’s just say we know what we like. And we get this mental image in our heads and usually end up having to make something to fill the gap until we can find just. the. right. thing.

But what can we say. At least we know that we love the things in our home. And we love these simple cotton shades. And they go with everything - just everything. They warm up a room and they warm up a home. They are beautiful and so easy to make. A little gathering stitch run across the top (basically you are just making a mini … very mini… skirt) and it sits right down on top of the ugly plastic shade that is already there, covering up the blah.

And speaking of - if you can whip out one of these shades, you can whip out some gorgeous and simple skirts too. Don’t forgot those as simple gifts too! Everyone can use a simple gathered skirt.
