Santa apron

We do not understand why aprons seem to have gone out of vogue. If you have seen us cook, my goodness. We pretty much operate as a one woman destructive force in the kitchen when we are truly in our element. We love to experiment, so we grab and go, tossing and flinging, wiping and spilling, looking for all the world like a mad scientist. At least we know that our experiments end up mighty tasty, or there would be no hope. Nonetheless, were it not for aprons, some of our outfits would have been hopelessly ruined.

And even with the forethought of aprons, there are still some outfits that we just know better than to wear into the kitchen! And the holidays bring out the best of our experimental nature. We want to try new things, and cannot wait to pack up little boxes and bags, plates and platters of goodies to send off to friends and family. We need to get it all out of the kitchen so we can start the next round of recipe experimentation.

A quick and easy apron like this would certainly keep your favorite Christmas cook in the mood to keep your Santa tummy full. Working with marabou (the feathers bit) can be a challenge, but we have found that the best trick in our book is this: hand sewing with fishing line or dental floss and just a quick whip stitch will keep the feathery mess in place during the wildest winter storm.

A couple of black buttons, a good bit of nice black ribbon and you are in business to make yourself some of the cutest little aprons this side of the North Pole. Give it a shot. Your friends will love the gesture, and if they cook during the season, they will love having something to save their clothes during the big day too! Trust us on this one.
