Christmas ball ornament variation 1
I yoinked this from, I think, BHG, but I cannot be held to it. I am almost sure. But I did love it and thought that this was something that was a little zippy, something that you could put a foam core underneath if pets or children are a concern or you just want something softer than glass. I loved the floating ribbon, the color and the vision of this duplicated as a big hurking pillow.
When my nephews were born, I racked my wee little brain for something special for them for Christmases, knowing that the boys were going to be overwhelmed with boxes, bags and goodies. They were going to get more than they could keep track of, in all honesty. So, I started a box for each nephew, and each year, I have added a handmade Christmas tree ornament.
When the boys reach the age where they leave home and have occasion to decorate their own special trees, as their auntie, I will then turn over their special Christmas tree ornament box, thus ensuring that they will have at least eighteen years of handmade ornaments, each specialized for each boy’s life.
While this ornament looks a little intimidating, it really is not. It is simply ribbons stuck in a circle around a ball ornament, then another layer on top of that, until the ball ornament is full. The ornament is monotoned, which I love, but mixing and matching would really look fantastic too.
This is not limited to Christmas either. Can you imagine decorating for a baby shower by using pink and pastel blue ribbons? Fourth of July using red white and blue ribbons? Easter using pastels? Halloween using purple, orange, black and lime green? Oh, the ideas just keep coming. Actually, I am getting a little inspired to go try a few of these!
