Candy is king.

candy as queen

Have you seen this trick before? Around here, we love to purchase bags of off season candy, stuff you wouldn’t dare eat, for literally pennies a bag. No worries though, because this stuff will never pass through the lips (intentionally that is).

The worry at the Kattitudes office is the babies in the house. Furbabies to be precise. A chihuahua and a terrier roam the halls at will, and there is always the possibility of noses in places that do not belong (that, and the wandering hands of visiting children). So to make home decorations 1) inexpensive and 2) absolutely nontoxic, candy rocks the house.

This stuff fills bowls and boxes and bags. We have a cut crystal collection that looks wonderful full of candles, but digging candle wax out is the pits. Fill all the crystal with a layer of candy corn and we have a seasonal look, in addition to a safe nontoxic solution (it beats out rock salt which can ruin the wood floors if spilled and not found), that can catch melted wax and is easy removed.

Now the trick as to using candy as a vase? Double containers! Put a smaller water filled container inside the first. The water filled container is for the flowers. Use the empty space between the first and second container to contain the candy. Make sure that the interior water filled container is at least as tall as the outside container, or a lot of your candy is going to spill into the water and then your flowers die faster and it is just an unholy mess. Make life easy and aim for two equal containers.
