Velvet Christmas mini stockings
We just love Christmas stockings. They represent so much hope and anticipation and promise and eagerness and mystery and just so many things that we do not get enough of in our every day lives.
We put up multiple Christmas trees at Kattitudes over the holidays. Over the years, between purchase and design and our little hands, we have enough stocking ornaments to decorate an entire tree. We love these particular ornaments, not necessarily because of the velvet fabric (which we adore) but for the jewelry adornments.
Over the years, we have collected thousands of little pieces and frills of jewelry bits. When a piece of jewelry broke, we tossed the remaining pieces into a box, knowing that we would have stock to play with during the holidays. Now, when Christmas (or any other event) rolls around, because of this stock of saved pieces, it is easy to do things like decorate stockings and gift boxes with sparkling pieces to add to the fun.
In addition, we have a nice stock of pieces to rip apart and marry new parts together to create beautiful new jewelry ideas. The money is already gone so we might at well get our use out of every last bit of that piece of jewelry!
And while these stockings are ornament sized, there is nothing stopping you from cutting your fabric larger and copying the idea for regular sized stockings. Or, if you wanted to give your personal Santa a hint, you could always cut your stocking fabric …well, significantly larger if needed.
Our favorite detail is the button sewn to the back of the cuff. Our new habit, we like it that much.
