Back to basics: punch.
Americans do drink a lot of artificial soda pop. We remember making root beer in our youth. That was a good tasting beverage. It was a special beverage too; homemade and just had a good snap to it.
We are of an age where social gatherings predated mass bottled fizzy sugar drinks, so we remember a number of social punch bowl situations and punch recipes. We say that punch is a back to basic issue because we see it as an entertaining basic. You really should be able to have a favorite drink recipe to serve 50 to 100 people (or even only ten).
We found that once we selected a few favorite punch recipes, we heard frequent requests for our specialties at events along with the recipes. Water is great, not everyone will drink soda, but most people will try a glass a punch. It brings a smile to your face and a bonding laugh over the holidays. Practice whipping up small batches for your family to see what flavors you prefer. Your family will love the special treat and you will appreciate the willing testing kitchen participants.
