Blackberry Jam

blackberries

Although this jam is utterly fantastic with fresh blackberries, it can easily be made with frozen blackberries. If you are not used to canning, it can be intimidating the first time around, but it does not have to be. Read up on it a bit, and then give it a shot. We encourage you to try it because there are few more wonderful gifts than a basket of fresh baked bread and new preserves. They taste so wonderful, you simply have to try it.

Ingredients

* 3 cups blackberries
* 2 cups water
* 1 package powdered fruit pectin
* 5 cups sugar

Crush fruit thoroughly. Add water and fruit pectin. Stir until pectin is dissolved. Heat to boil. Boil 5 to 10 minutes, then add sugar and stir until dissolved.

Boil 3 to 5 minutes more, stirring frequently, or until thick.

Pour into sterilized jam jars. After sealing with ring, turn upside down for approximately five minutes (the under seal on the jar cover will pop down). Be careful at this point, as the jars are quite hot!
