The kudzu is blooming!

KUDZU

For people that are not familiar with the vine of the Southern United States, kudzu is our all pervasive all encompassing fair weather indicator. Kudzu is an amazing plant, growing up to a foot a day easily. We know when the start of the summer season is upon us, as the kudzu stops with the dead brown lifeless vines and, as if overnight, starts to grow as if it were never dead. All summer, the kudzu goes mad, covering everything that stays still long enough. No joke. Bushes, trees, cars, barns, even houses; nothing is free from the ravages of the creeping kudzu.

When the summer has been as brutally hot as it has been recently (and in August in the tropical southern heat, it always seems brutally hot), we look eagerly for a single sign.

Blooming kudzu.

At the end of the summer, the kudzu gives one last hurrah and blooms delicate little purple blooms. Southern natives know to look for that purple blush to the kudzu mass on the side of the road as we zoom past, hoping against hope to see the sign that time, is indeed, finally marching on and the overheated ravages of summer are finally drawing to an end.blooming kudzu

And it is with great pride that we can report that the kudzu is in bloom here in Georgia. Finally. It is time to put away the summer toys, get out your autumn clothes and decorations and plans. Time to finish your vacations and celebrate the goodness of the earth and the bounties of nature. Time to enjoy the fullness of the harvests and look forward to the holidays. We love this time of year. Now, for goodness sake, let us have some rain!

We noticed that more and more hits are happening on Christmas projects so you are actually out there planning ahead, thinking about what you are going to be making. We are thrilled and as a result, are reinvigorated to go back to our systems and find the photos of projects that we have stored over the ages to inspire and energize.
