Budget dining.

I talk a lot about different types of food gifts and baked goodies for events.

Here are my politics.

In America, in my social sphere, we worry about money. We have some, enough to be comfortable, particularly in consideration of living conditions of the rest of the world. Some we fall significantly behind, others, we live in what would pass as the lap of luxury.

Because of that, one of my founding principles is that buying in not always the answer. It is not always the answer for gift occasions and it is not always the answer for everyday situations down to the act of taking sustenance.

We have so much. Yes, sure, I am human and want more than I need or even deserve. But I also see that.

Having so much in this day and age also exhibits in our eating habits and health snapshots. Right now, so many people are focusing less on what they have and more on how they feel.

There is an entire continuum that covers the physically healthy feelings, and I want to dip my feet in there in so far as creativity can expand. With more people focused on fitness, let our gifts to them reflect a healthier outlook.

I will start including my outrageous collection of recipes. These have been snipped for decades now, so some origins remain a mystery. Some will be easy to determine. But all of these recipes and ideas stem from the idea that 1) the gifts from the earth are varied and wonderful and 2) we do not necessarily need to spend anything to create a wonderful gift.

Now, as part of that spending idea, I learned early how to stretch our food budget to levels that a banker would be proud to call his own. I have ideas for all budget levels for both dining and gifting.

Although I will label some recipes with my personal term of “plastic”, most of the recipes you will find call for simple ingredients.

Ingredients should always be 1) local, if possible and 2) fresh, no matter what.

The political benefits of eating locally have been done to death by more eloquent voices than mine, so I will guide you to your local search engine for more persuasive arguments, until such time as I feel confident enough to find my voice on the subject.

Cost. Fresh. Local. Those are my interests.

Soon I will want to discuss budgets and organization and such, but let’s leave that entry for another day.
