  • double boiler
  • 8 inch piece candlewick
  • pencil
  • approx 10 drops of lemon essential oil
  • approx 6 drops of eucalyptus oil
  • small wire whisk
  1. cut top off carton, leaving as much height as possible to prevent wax spillage. Finished candle should be about five inches tall, so mark outside of carton, five inches up from the bottom
  2. pierce a small hole in center of bottom of carton
  3. cut wax into small chunks, and heat in double boiler until melted. Remove from heat
  4. dip all but three inches of wick into wax; hold a few seconds. Remove wick; let wax cool slightly. Run fingers down wick to straighten.
  5. Thread wick through hole in bottom of carton (mark sure unwaxed end is at top of carton. Leave 1/2 inch of waxed end outside hold, flatten against bottom, and plus hole on outside of carton with soft wax. Make sure wick is centered. Pull taut; wrap excess wick around pencil and lay pencil across top of carton.
  6. If wax in double boiler has begun to harden, reheat. Remove from heat; add oils. Whisk wax gently and constantly as it cools. When foam forms on surface, pour 1/2 cup wax into carton. Swish around, coating inside up to five inch mark. Pour excess wax back into pot.
  7. Reheat wax if needed; whisk until foamy, then pour into carton up to mark. Reserve one tablespoon for topping off. Let sit five minutes; tap mold to release air bubbles.
  8. As it cools, candle will develop an indentation around wick. Reheat the reserved wax and top off. Let wax cool and harden completely. Trim bottom wick flush with base of candle.
